Lake Washington Kangs Girls Select - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When does the season start?
A: We will have optional skills clinics this summer and fall, as announced. Practices will begin in October and we will likely have 2 pre-season tourney weekends (one in Oct and one in Nov). The regular season will run from Dec – Feb with an end of the year tournament in early March. Some teams may choose to participate in a additional tournaments. (This is up to each team and not included in fees.)

Q: Who do we play?
A: Our teams will play in the Eastside Traveling League and or the Puget Sound Travel League (PSTL).

Q: What does the program cost?
A: The cost of the program is $750.00 The fee covers league play and at 3-4 tournaments, gym time, insurance and equipment.

Q: When is our payment due?
A: Tryouts will be held in September.  You will be notified shortly after if your daughter made the team or not. The payment will be due on or before the kickoff meeting in early October unless other arrangements have been made.

Q: What is the commitment?
A: We ask that Lake Washington Select Basketball be your top athletic commitment during the basketball season. Practices are generally twice a week for 1 - 1.5 hours and each team generally plays one or two league games per weekend. In the past, the regular season ends up being around 14 games and each tournament is generally 3 or 4 games.

Q: Are scholarships available?
A: It is our goal that every child that makes the teams get the opportunity to play. We have allowed a little room in our budget to help players that truly have a need. We can certainly help with payment plans to spread the cost out over many months. Please only ask for scholarships if you have a true need. If you do need a scholarship, please email us with details on the reason for the need and the amount that you are able to pay on a payment plan. For girls requesting scholarships, there will be opportunities for the child/parents to procure ads for the high school program and/or possibly support the program with additional help at a program fundraiser.

Q: What if my daughter doesn’t make the team?
A: Kang’s Select is just one of many basketball programs available. Most schools offer a basketball program and Kirkland Parks and the Kirkland Boys and Girls Club offer programs as well. If your daughter doesn’t make the team, we encourage her to play for another program to build skills and try out again next year.

Q: What if my daughter made the team last year, is she guaranteed a spot this year?
A:  All players are expected to tryout each year and just because your daughter made the team one year doesn’t guarantee a spot the next year. Our goal is to build each team with the best available talent each year. If your daughter doesn’t make the team, we encourage her to play for another program to build skills and try out again the following year.
